Bendarts supports Bendigo Homeless Youth

Yesterday the Bendarts Pub Night was held on an afternoon.

The Facebook group meets semi regularly for a social catch up and met between 3pm & 6pm at the Golden Vine Hotel yesterday in order to support the Bendigo for Homeless Youth fundraising event.
Along with an enthusiastic crowd of music lovers, members listened to a good selection of performing artists perform live at the local pub.
Entry to the event was a mere gold coin donation and meant a great social afternoon was had by all.
As the arts group was started on line by the incredibly enthusiastic Hugh Waller, members often only know each other via this social platform, so an opportunity to be able to listen to live music and be able to meet up and talk (albeit with a loud voice) with other members of our group was a tremendous opportunity.
It seemed only appropriate that we do this while supporting a worthwhile cause.

As well as the support of the Golden Vine hotel,
BENDIGO for Homeless Youth is sponsored by Bendigo Bank, Bendigo Community Telco and 91.9 STAR FM.

Bendigo Library closing soon for move

For all those people who love the local library in Bendigo I thought I would share this latest media release from the CofGB council…but don’t forget there’s a lovely smaller branch at Kangaroo Flat!

“Bendigo LIBRARY IS ON THE MOVE

Bendigo Library will close its doors for three weeks from 1pm Saturday, August 25 to enable around 70,000 books, cds, DVDs and magazines to be relocated to the former Bendigo Advertiser building at 96-98 Pall Mall.

The former Advertiser building will remain the library’s temporary home from 9am Monday, September 17, until major refurbishment works at the current site are finished.

The Goldfields Research Centre and the Bendigo Regional Archives Centre will re-open at the former Tea House Bakery at 202 Hargreaves Street on Wednesday, September 19.

The City’s Director of Organisation Support, Marg Allan, said City and library staff had worked hard to limit any disruption, but it would have been unrealistic to try to keep services operating during the relocation.

She said the City had kept the community informed about the changes using posters, bookmarks, advertisements and regular project bulletins. Information had also been sent out with 53,385 rate notices.

“Our libraries recorded 579,279 visits last financial year and it is very important that we make sure users are well informed about what is happening and why,” Ms Allan said.

Goldfields Library Corporation CEO Carolyn Macvean said: “Relocating around 70,000 books, cds and DVDs plus furniture and fittings is a mammoth task and will take some time to complete. We are very confident though that the library will be open for business at its new temporary home on Monday, 17 September.”

Ms Macvean said the drop off shute would remain at the current site until September 19 when it would be relocated to 202 Hargreaves Street.

Ms Macvean also said that no items borrowed by the Bendigo library would be due back during the closure.

“Reserved items will be kept at the current site until we re-open in our temporary site or borrowers can request pick-up from other libraries including Kangaroo Flat or Eaglehawk,” she said.

The refurbishment has received significant State Government funding with $2 million from the Local Government Infrastructure Program and $750,000 from the Living Libraries Program.”

Jon Marcollo is dedicated to the sport of sled dog racing.

While I have dabbled in film making, my prowess is mainly in creating slideshows. So when ABC Open Producer Jane Curtis contacted me asking if I wanted to be involved in the latest ABC Open project, 110%, I didn’t hesitate…
