PANEL TO HEAR SUBMISSIONS ON DRAFT ROAD STRATEGY

With the contentious issue of a proposed 4 lane highway coming through some Bendigonians’s properties the following panel will be of interest to many locals.

A panel of Greater Bendigo City Councillors and staff and VicRoads officers will convene in the RL Campbell Theatrette at Bendigo Library from 5pm until 10pm on Thursday July 21, 2011 to hear from submitters to the Draft Bendigo Road Transport Strategy.

City of Greater Bendigo Director of Presentation and Assets Darren Fuzzard said the panel is the next step in listening to the community’s feedback regarding the Draft Bendigo Road Transport Strategy.

“The City has received over 450 submissions on the draft strategy and we have since written letters to everyone who has made a submission to advise them of the opportunity to attend the panel session,” said Mr Fuzzard.

He said the evening will be divided into five themes as follows:-
•    Allingham Street integrated transport corridor;
•    Hattam/Adam Street duplication;
•    Gladstone Street to White Hills integrated transport corridor;
•    Sustainable Transport Planning; and
•    Other Roads.

“Up to five pre-arranged 10 minute presentations will be made under each theme by people who have put in a submission that covers the majority of comments made about the draft.

“We have consulted with members of the Bendigo Take Action Group to ascertain the best speakers for each of the themes.

“Following these presentations, the floor will be offered to others in attendance to add comments that have not already been made under each theme.

“This will provide an opportunity for the submitters to reiterate their comments and an opportunity for the panel to gather further information from the community.

“However I would like to stress that all written submissions will still be considered regardless of whether or not a verbal presentation is made.

“The City of Greater Bendigo and VicRoads would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to view and make a submission on this very important draft strategy for Bendigo,” said Mr Fuzzard.

He said all interested members of the community are welcome to attend the session.
