Laurie and Carol Merritt of Tatura, retired dairy farmers and she is a carer of the elderly.
we met this lovely couple last year on our LAke Eyre trip and they told us that Laurie was recreating an olde style cottage in their back garden, using the remains of the dairy as well as other historic remnants. He was on the look out for special rocks that would feature in the wall above the fireplace.
All the imperfect furniture (his words) were made by him, quite a mean feat considering he has been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthiritis and all the tasks of building his cottage, including cleaning each brick by hand, were to be done with his hands.
Bill and I were invited to come over for lunch and see this lovely cottage. Our visit also coincided with the couple having, just that week , celebrated 44 years of marriage.
